Hong attended IUCr high pressure workshop at Argonne National Lab and presented a poster on metal-water reaction at high pressure. He also got the IUCr young and early scientist award.

Prof. Tiwei Wei visited Stanford University. Tiwei was a postdoc at Stanford Nano Heat Lab, now he leads the Alpha Lab at Purdue University. I am collaborating with Tiwei on the thermal modeling of metal samples under laser shock compressions.

A new MFK2 Kappa Bridge susceptibility meter was installed in Stanford Paleomagnetism Lab. Hong will be using this equipment to measure anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility as well as curie temperature of rock samples.

Hong attended CIDER 2022 Summer Program: Earth’s evolution as an inhabited world, at UC Berkeley. Group project was on Formation of Earth's early atmosphere from impacts. Other group members include Jessie Gu, Bo Peng, Jisheng Zhang, Xuan Ji, Susana Hoyos.

Hong joined field trip Geophys 214 and didn't shower for 3 days. He visited Crater Lake National Park, Lassen Volcanic National Park and Lava Beds National Monument during the trip. He also got a free water bottle from Oregon Institution of Technology.
